LAN Blog #4

Justin Patera Dr. Lee Internship Feb 6 2019 Today at my internship I finished the calendar that I had been working on for the past weeks and got a chance to see a draft of the final project. It is now a mini calendar which contains the events for the months that the LAN project will be held. In addition, I got to see some of the billboards that are advertising for LAN which helped me understand more about the different steps when marketing an event of such a scale. I also added to the electronic calendar which will be updated very soon. I added the same dates as in the booklet but everything is virtualized and so I got a chance to see what building a website entails and how that process occurs. My new assignment is to go over everything I put in the digital calendar and make sure there are no spelling errors as well as add any new events. In  all honesty I hadn't realized how big this project is till these past weeks when they began asking me to do larger sums of work that wer...

LAN Blog #3 11/14/18

Justin Patera Dr. Lee Internship 12/2/18 This I was assigned to write small blurbs for each of the places of buisness I had previously picked out. For the most part this wasn't hard just time consuming because of the amount buissnesses I had selected. I selected enough to the point where the booklet looks good and my blurbs are sized so that people don't feel as though they are being forced to read. I also ended up helping Sydney a little with the media posts as sometimes they can be rather confusing because of the formatting of FaceBook. I also emailed the list for the booklets to one of my mothers collegues, Dr. Kanellos, who is the founder of Arte Publico Press. I did this in hopes that he would be able to go over the list and just make suggestions to work. In this case he ended up giving me a few more popular restraunts and buissnesses within Houston that I had missed. My assignment for the December the 5th is to find a decent picture for each of the selected buissness...

LAN Blog #2 11/7/18

Justin Patera Dr. Lee Internship 12/2/18 During my internship today I continued helping Sydney make media posts for each of the 33 participating venues. I also continued to work on the booklet for Houston's Latino-owned businesses. In short, I was assigned to pick out a list of final restraunts, buissnesses and oragnaizations that would be put into the final booklet. I had already created this list so really all this entailed was just combing through it and figuring out, based off  my own opinion, which of each should be included in the final product. Dr. Quiroz also began to explain to us all the annoying processes with the university and with outside organizations she runs into. She gets slightly miffed at the university occassionaly because they limit where you can draw funds from and whatever organization you're trying to get funds from has to be pre-approved by the university. This next week my job is to write small blurbs for each of the final place selcted.

Justin Patera Dr. Lee Internship October 29th LAN Internship Just as a small recap, for the past couple of weeks I have been working on a small booklet that gives information on Latino businesses, Latino artists and their works. I am also the director of their social media, I create posts for them to post on Twitter, Instagram and, Facebook. I in-short promote the event on different platforms. Just recently I finished the magazine that we will be putting in different shops and restaurants around Houston. One thing that stood out to me last time was how well they communicate with their outside sources. They constantly email them and tease them about the event as to keep them interested. They all meet on Wednesdays from 10:00 to about 1:00 and discuss what needs to get done, where they are in that process and what needs to happen next. Although my mom is technically leading the event I don't work under her. I work under a woman named Devon Jones. I knew her previous to me...
